Do you own your website?

It may sound a strange thing to ask, but do you know if you actually own your own website?

Many website design companies will happily provide you with a website complete with hosting and email. But what happens if you decide you want to host it elsewhere? Some people have been told they have to pay a fee to transfer it away, but in more and more cases, we are finding clients being told they they aren’t able to transfer their site away at all – because they don’t own it!

Small print in contracts means that in some instances you only own the content that you provide to go on the site (the words and pictures). The code and structure necessary to make the website work and, more importantly, appear on search engines remains the property of the design company and you merely lease it from them.

It’s vitally important to check with your website provider before you commit that, once you have paid for your website, you own it. Not just the images and words, but the coding and structure of the site so that you can retain it and its search rank if you wish to transfer it to another host.

Our website hosting packages are transparent. Once you pay your bill that website is yours in its entirety, Words, pictures, code, structure and any SEO work done is retained should you wish to move it elsewhere. All you need to pay is the yearly hosting/management fee.

We understand that sometimes you have to move your website elsewhere and we don’t penalise you for that, there are no charges to transfer away and full access is given for you to do so.

Although having said that, most of our clients that have gone elsewhere for their hosting have ended up coming back. We don’t charge for that either!
